High gas prices and a strong Canadian dollar are expected to impact the local tourism business.
The President of Tourism Calgary tells 660News, it’s beginning to look like it’s going to be another summer where tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants have to rely on so called locals for the bulk of their business.
Randy Williams says the high price of fuel will likely prompt many people to plan holidays not far from home.
Williams says at the same time, the soaring loonie will likely keep a number of foreign tourists away.
Next week Tourism Calgary will roll out a new two year campaign.
Tourism posted growth of three per cent last year in Calgary, Williams believes this year’s gain will be slightly better.
He also says some good hot weather this summer would also help the bottom line.
