Officer forced to shoot and kill charging Rottweiler

The Calgary Police Service’s homicide unit has launched an investigating after an officer shot and killed a dog, early Friday morning.

Police spokesman Kevin Brookwell says it happened at about 1:00 a.m. while officers were responding to a noise complaint at a home in the 100 block of Appleglen Park southeast.

“When two officers attended the scene a dog ran from inside the house towards the officers. One officer discharged his firearm at the dog,” says Brookwell.

He adds, that’s when the dog (a full size Rottweiler) either ran back. or was taken back in to the home by the owner.

The upset homeowners then refused to let police into the house.

At about 5:00 a.m. Friday morning the owner placed the dog, which had died, outside his home.

The Homicide Unit investigates any case where a life is lost due to an officer firing their weapon.
