City police are looking to get tough on those responsible for spreading graffiti around Calgary
So-called ‘tags’ by graffiti artists are exploding around the city and Constable Dave Ladic tells 660News, the money to remove or paint over the tag comes out of taxpayers pockets.
“The city spends millions of dollars cleaning it up yearly and it takes away from other jobs. For example, in the winter time, roads has to deal with the snow and dealing with the roads but then they have to go and clean up some of their structures, too, for graffiti. It just takes away from some of the stuff that the city needs to get done,” says Ladic.
He says if you see someone doing graffiti you should call 9-1-1 immediately.
The punishment for tagging can get someone ‘two years less a day’ in jail and up to $2 thousand in fines. And that’s per tag.
