Calgary could begin streaming minor hockey live

High definition video cameras could be coming to local hockey arenas.
Calgary is on the shortlist to become the first Canadian city to stream minor hockey online through video cameras installed at rinks.
Parents would be able to stream live footage, but it could also help cut down on dirty play.
A company called In the Play wants to launch the HD screening in cities across North America. Parents can watch the footage from seven different angles, including the zones, nets and a moving side view.
Viewers can freeze-frame the video and use a telestrator, which allows them to draw over the image. These tools could also be used by hockey coaches grooming the next generation of NHLers.
Referees will also get the chance to go back and review goals, checks and other infractions.
Parents will pay a small fee to stream the videos of the games.
It’s not clear how much each game will cost, but The Calgary Herald reports it could be between $5 and $10.
Hockey Calgary is asking members for their opinions on the plan.
If members warm up to the idea, cameras could be installed in some of the city’s arenas in time for the 2012-2013 season.
