WestJet quick to pull an April Fool’s Day prank

Calgary-based WestJet wasted no time marking April Fool’s Day.

Early Friday morning, Canada’s second biggest airline issued a joke news release outlining its plan to cut fuel consumption by up to four per cent.

WestJet joked that effective Friday it would reduce the weight of its aircraft by mixing lighter-than-air helium into the ventilation system.

April Fool’s Day dates back to 1564, when French King Charles the 9th changed the calendar.

Prior to that, April 1st was New Year’s Day in many cultures.

Originally, it was called, “All Fool’s Day.”
