New communities should anticipate secondary suites: Demong

A rookie alderman is trying to make sure new neighbourhoods plan for secondary suites right from the start.
Alderman Peter Demong says people buying homes in new suburbs that know those communities are zoned for secondary suites can decide to buy in a different neighbourhood if they want.
Demong tells The Calgary Herald it’s not fair to legalize suites in communities not currently zoned for them, as some homeowners bought in those neighbourhoods because secondary suites weren’t allowed.
The Ward 14 councillor’s notice of motion goes before council Monday.
