More major job cuts at Calgary schools

The Calgary Board of Education has announced ‘phase two’ of job cuts in light of major shortfalls contained in the provincial budget.
The total shortfall is nearly 62-million dollars and in phase one, unveiled in March, the CBE announced 172 job cuts, mostly for speech therapists and learning specialists.
Those cuts and using reserves, left another 25 million dollars still to cover off.
Phase 2 will deal with that, and means about 280 full time positions will have to be cut across the region.
The CBE says each school will be given a set amount of money to spend, and principals then decide where and what to cut.
The Board of Trustees will meet to discuss the budget proposal on Tuesday.
