Arson suspected in Airdrie school fire

The RCMP are calling a fire at Bert Church High School in Airdrie a case of arson.
The blaze was set shortly before noon Monday in a men’s bathroom on the main floor of the school.
“One entire bathroom on the main floor of the school suffered extensive damage, and won’t be usuable for quite some time,” Constable Robert Frizell tells 660News, noting the fire was quickly put out.
“One of the school’s staff had put out the fire with an extinguisher from the kitchen,” adds Frizell. “On reviewing the scene with the fire investigator, it’s been determined that it was an intentional fire.”
He says the school has surveillance cameras and video from the cameras is being reviewed.
“The school does have in-school cameras that are being reviewed by the Airdrie General Investigations section as well as the Airdrie RCMP,” says Frizell, “so we’re using those cameras as well as other various investigational techniques in an attempt to identify some persons of interest.”
No one was injured in the fire nor is there a damage estimate at this point.
