More than 200 Albertans are getting a devastating warning they may have been infected with HIV, Hepatitis C, or both.
This comes after a medical professional working in a number of Edmonton operating rooms tested positive for both.
Alberta Health Services says 226 patients will be tested, but officials are quick to say that the risk of them having contracted HIV or Hep. C is very low.
Senior Medical Officer of Health Dr. Gerry Predy adds their infection control practices weren’t breached.
He says they’re notifying these people as a precaution and, “in the interest of being transparent.”
