Lack of workers hurting cattle industry

Alberta ranchers are looking for a few good young people.

Jack Daines with the Innisfail Auction Market says the beef industry is dominated by people in their 60’s who don’t have anybody to pass their business onto.

Daines say young people in the province are being lured away from the ranching industry, by the promise of big dollars in oil and gas.

He says as the labour shortage in the beef industry is worked out, people can help ranchers in another way, by going to their local butcher shops and buying some beef.

Daines believes beef prices will remain fairly high moving forward.
