Free testing for glaucoma

If you haven’t had your eyes tested for glaucoma in a while, you may want to stop by Southcentre Mall Monday.
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind is putting on a free clinic.
Brian Vey with the CNIB says the cost of getting an eye exam means a lot of people are not doing it as often as they should.
“You know a lot of people can’t afford that and my feeling is that if we can prevent vision loss and you know if it’s made easier for people to access those resources then naturally they’re going to do so,” says Vey.
According to the CNIB, it’s estimated that a quarter of a million Canadians are affected by glaucoma but only half know they have it.
Vey says the disease is painless and has no early symptoms.
The free testing at Southcentre Mall goes from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
