Heavy snowpack could hamper May long weekend plans

Parks Canada officials are warning that several campsites, trails and day spots will likely be closed over the May long weekend, due to snow.
They say it’s due to this year’s extended winter weather and a colder than usual spring.
Some of the campsite closures could include Two Jack Lakeside, Two Jack Main Campground, Lake Louise Tent Campground and the Kootenay National Park Redstreak Campground.
Spokesman Omar McDadi tells The Calgary Herald parks employees are working very hard to clear the extra snow and debris in time for some of the main sites.
He adds avalanches earlier in the year have also caused damage to some areas.
Off-roaders could also see their plans change.
The province is considering restricting access to some trails over fears that ATVs and dirt bikes could cause serious damage with the frost that’s underneath the top layer of mud.
