Re-trial ordered for Aset Magamadova

Aset Magamadova, the woman convicted of manslaughter after strangling her 14 year-old daughter to death with a scarf four years ago, will be going on trial again.
The Alberta Court of Appeal found the original trial judge erred in the reasons given for acquitting the mother on the charge of second degree murder.
The judge instead found her guilty on a lesser charge of manslaughter and sentenced her to three years of probation.
Magamadova originally testified that she strangled her daughter in self-defence, after the 14-year-old tried to attack her.
A three judge panel looked at testimony from a forensic pathologist, which found that Magamadova’s daughter, Aminat, would have lost consciousness after just 15 to 30 seconds of having the scarf put around her neck.
The pathologist said it would have taken at least two minutes to kill her.
A date for the new trial has not yet been set.
