Search begins for summer work

Thousands of post secondary students are on the hunt for summer jobs, and it won’t be long before high school students enter the fray.

The Calgary Youth Employment Centre says finding a pay cheque in the coming months should be a little easier.

The prospects for students this summer are better than last year.

The centre’s Leita Blasetti says one of the ways they can gauge that is with their hiring fair last month, when more employers attended than ever before.

Blasetti says they have about 100 postings on their board right now ranging from labour to retail.

She says those who plan to apply need to do their homework, because employers are little more discerning when it comes to who they add to their payroll.
