There may have been a bit of rain coming down, but spirits were still high as thousands of Calgarians gathered in the streets for the city’s annual pride parade.

Parade watchers in the downtown core told CityNews they love the environment.

“(It’s) just the energy, its a lot of fun to be here. There’s a lot of spirit,” Jaime Rue says.

“The sense of community. I don’t know, just allowed to be here, be yourself,” added Rebecca Reid.

Rue says it’s a great way to escape from the stress of everyday life.

“There’s a lot of scary things in the world, and its to celebrate things just focused on happiness and joy.”

Reid says that along with the community, her favourite parts are the pageantry and the outfits.

“I like to see everyone dressed up as flamboyantly as I,” pointing to her Pokémon hat, and adding that the rainy weather was not stopping her from enjoying the festivities.
