Airport tunnel decision looming

Calgarians will find out on Monday whether or not the airport tunnel project is a go.
Grant Galpin of the Airport Trail Access Committee tells 660News an east-west link is necessary to alleviate the ever growing traffic along Mcknight, Country Hills and the Deerfoot.
He says the biggest benefit is it’s the cheapest and fastest way to connect the LRT.
“The shortest way to connect the LRT to the existing line is through that tunnel. If the city will go ahead with it and find a way to make that connection over the next number of years, that tunnel provides the easiest and cheapest way to connect people on the LRT line.”
Galpin says it would allow for thousands of airport workers and hundreds of thousands of tourists an easy and efficient way in and out of the airport.
He noted that the airport authority needs to remember that Calgarians voted heavily in favour of this project in the last municipal election.
