The Calgary Public School Board has nixed the proposal to hike transit fees for parents whose kids use school buses.
The board is turning back to administration to come up with different solutions to close the $8.8 million budget gap between provincial grants and the cost of running school buses.
Had the fee increase been passed by the board on Tuesday night, it would have meant a family maximum of $670 annually for busing.
The board faces a total $61.7 million budget shortfall that threatens the jobs of 358 teachers and support staff.
