Premier announces new schools for Airdrie and Chestermere

Intense lobbying by parents and school groups has paid off, as Premier Ed Stelmach unveiled a multi-million dollar program Tuesday to build and modernize schools.

The province has committed $550 million dollars to the school construction and renovation program for 35 schools.

Premier Stelmach says extra classrooms are needed across the province to accommodate the more than 100 thousand new students that will soon be enrolled in the system.

Stelmach says his goverment will also make sure the money that is needed to run the classrooms will be there in the future.

Airdrie is getting three new schools, while Chestermere will get one.
