Groups organize to protest teacher layoffs

A number of Alberta unions and special interest groups have launched a province-wide campaign to protest teacher layoffs.

“Join Together Alberta” is calling on the government to save some 1,200 teaching jobs in jeopardy.

Sharon Armstrong, Vice President of the Alberta Teachers Association, tells 660News a united voice could help convince the province to loosen its purse strings.

Earlier this week, Education Minister Dave Hancock suggested roughly 1,200 teaching jobs will be eliminated this fall due to education funding cuts.
