Quilters converge on Heritage Park

Calgary quilters can get their fill Sunday at Heritage Park.
The park is hosting the 16th Annual Festival of Quilts, which is the largest festival of its kind in western Canada..
Heritage Park spokesperson Barb Munro tells 660News, the event has something for everyone.
“You know, whether you’re an enthusiastic quilter, or you just appreciate a beautiful piece of handiwork, it’s just a really great way to spend a day, come down and to see the work that these people have done,” she says. “These are local quilters, these are regular people, who just do this as a hobby, because they love it.”
She says they have all types of quilts draping building railings and for sale, including some that are heirlooms.
“We have over 600 quilts on display throughout the park, hanging on the Wainwright Hotel and hanging off the historic buildings and just on display inside the houses, it’s just beautiful” she says. “These are gorgeous works of art, home made quilts, some of them dating back over 100 years.”
The festival includes workshops, sales and a merchant’s mall for all a quilter’s needs.
The event runs until 5 p.m. Sunday at Heritage Park.
