Minimum wage bump bigger than expected

Alberta’s minimum wage is set to increase by $0.60 in September.

Employment and Immigration Minister Thomas Lukaszuk announced Wednesday, the province will be hiking the minimum wage from $8.80 and $9.40 per hour.

The province will also introduce a new minimum wage of $9.05 for workers who serve alcohol, recognizing that they also earn tips.

The new minimum hourly wage is a 6.8 per cent increase for general workers and will bump up the salaries of some 20,000 people across the province.
