Fire guts two Bridlewood homes

A massive two alarm blaze has destroyed two homes in the city’s southwest.

Fire crews were quickly able to get the blaze between the zero to one hundred block of Bridleglen Road under control, but not before it melted the siding off of a third home.

Police evacuated houses around the area; two officers suffered from minor smoke inhalation when they entered a home to save a dog.

The dog was so scared that it bit one of the officer’s forearms. The officer was treated on scene.

Olivia watched the fire burn and tells 660News it spread very quickly.

“The second [house] caught on fire and the whole roof just caught on fire and caved in and then they were trying to put it out from up top,” she says.

Olivia’s friend Julia describes how the fire spread while crews rushed to stamp it out. “We saw how the siding caught on fire and how the chimney fell down and stuff, from all the water. When the water was pouring through the roof, all of the water was pouring out from the front door.”

Brian McAsey with the Fire Department says crews fought desperately to keep the flames at bay.

“We had a very strong south wind, and in the community of Bridlewood here, obviously the houses are built very closely together, so we’re also dealing with circumstances where it’s perfect for fire spread.

The homes remain standing, but they’re heavily damaged. The inside of one is completely gutted.
