Officers recommend first charges in Stanley Cup riots

VANCOUVER – Proving they are serious about prosecuting those responsible for the damage, Vancouver police have recommended the first charges to stem from the now infamous Stanley Cup finals riots.

Only days into the investigation, officers have asked the Crown to lay charges of arson, mischief, unlawful assembly and participation in a riot.

Nearly half a dozen people have already turned themselves into police, admitting they participated in Wednesday’s riots, The Toronto Star reported.

Vancouver police said, they have received an overwhelming response from the public including tips, photos and videos helping them identify those responsible for the mayhem.

A large task force, including RCMP and Metro Vancouver officers, have been assigned to investigate the riot.
