Strathmore man charged in alleged attempted drowning

Strathmore RCMP have charged a man who witnesses allege was trying to drown his baby daughter in a local lake.

Police say that 24 year-old Clinton Eldon Sunwalk of Siksika Nation is facing a charge of failing to provide the necessaries of life and breaching bail conditions.

Friday afternoon Mounties received a call about an drunk man attempting to drown a small child in the Kinsman Lake.

Police say a friend of the man ran into the water grabbed the infant and called 9–1–1.

Both the infant and the intoxicated man were taken to the hospital and released.

The 20 month-old girl is now in the custody of child and family services.

Sunwalk was out on bail relating to assault charges and breaching court orders.

He is now in custody and will appear in Strathmore Provincial Court July 5th.
