Will gas prices go up for the long weekend?

A new study hopes to dispel the myth that gas prices always rise before a holiday long weekend.
Michael Ervin with the Kent Group says they have taken a look at gas prices over the past five years and found no evidence that pump prices go up as people hit the road to get away.
“When we had a look at pump price changes over long weekend periods compared to pump price changes over non-holiday weekends, we found that the behaviour of pump prices was not different at all,” Ervin tells 660News.
But Ervin adds it’s difficult to convince motorists otherwise.
“They’re awfully difficult to dispel in the minds of people who will certainly add to their theory if the facts support it and ignore the fact that sometimes the facts don’t,” he adds.
Ervin says it’s common for fuel prices to rise during the spring and summer months, but that’s because of supply and demand, not the date on the calender.
As for this coming long weekend, he thinks prices will remain the same.
