Calgary welcomes new citizens on Canada Day

75 new comers will remember where they were when Canada celebrated its 144th birthday.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi kicked off the citizenship ceremony in Fort Calgary on Friday and tells 660News he has a message for all new citizens.
“Times have probably been tough for you and times will continue to be tough for a while but you made the right choice, you made a good choice and you and your family will do good here.”
The crowd cheered as the judge entered the tent, moments later the crowd gave the official Oath of Citizenship in English and French.
17 year-old Carlos is from Mexico and tells 660News this is a dream come true for him and his family.
“I think its a big step and I really think that becoming Canadian is something to be proud of, its really nice living here.”
He adds, he is thrilled he has rights and freedoms he didn’t have in his home country.
