Calgary teen builds 6,000‑piece Lego model of new Scotia Place

A Calgary teen has finished construction on the Flames’ new arena months before any real construction crews will.
Cruz Paredes, a 16‑year‑old Flames fan, has built a detailed Lego model of Scotia Place using more than 6,000 pieces and roughly 300 hours of work.
The project began after Paredes saw early renderings of the venue online and decided to take on what he calls a passion project.
“I love Lego, and I love the Calgary Flames,” he said. “When I saw the renderings for it online I decided to take it on a passion project.
“Throughout the concourse there’s over 200 people wearing red Flames jerseys, there’s over 100 trees outlining around the building.”
Paredes designed the model himself rather than assembling a pre-made kit.
He first built sections in one colour, then ordered the correct pieces and rebuilt them.
“The process was really just going on the Internet and trying to find as many renderings of all the different angles and just taking it, and breaking it down bit by bit,” he said.
The teen has already received offers from private collectors, but says he wants the model to be enjoyed publicly.
“Ideally, it gets put on display somewhere… really the end goal is to get it on display somewhere for others to enjoy.
“Would it be cool if it was at the new Scotia Place? Ideally, yeah.”
The model will be available for public viewing at the Brick Round Up convention on Oct. 17.
The life-size version of Scotia Place is scheduled to open in September 2027.
