Wildrose party defections not a big concern

A political scientist at Mount Royal University is downplaying some recent defections from the Wildrose Party.

Duane Bratt tells 660News, dissatisfaction over Premier Ed Stelmach’s leadership and tweaks to the province’s energy royalty regime are why a number of Tories left the P.C.’S in the first place.

Bratt says with the Tories getting ready to elect a new leader, some of the disenfranchised are returning to their political roots.

He says the only defections that truly hurt a political party is when an elected candidate crosses the floor to join another party, and that has not happened to the Wildrose yet.
