Small business owners, busy, but happy

A new small business survey has found, on average, small business owners in Calgary work more than 50 hours a week.

“I’m not surprised at all,” Donna Potter with TD Canada Trust tells 660News. “People that I talk to, generally, this is their life.  They’re passionate about what they do and they’re going make it happen. They have a great sense of satisfaction from what they do, helping their customers and the independence factor.” “

Despite the hours, Potter says 60 percent of small business owners in the city describe themselves as happy.  And when they’re happy, everyone benefits.

“When business owners here in Calgary are optimistic and happy doing what they do,” Potter adds, “They’re more likely to be spending more money, expanding, hiring new employees, that type of thing.”

Among the advantages cited in being a small business owner:  being your own boss and controlling your own destiny.
