PC Leadership candidates woo federal support

Among those attending Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Calgary Southwest Constituency Association barbeque Saturday evening at Heritage Park were some of the Provincial Progressive Conservative Party leadership candidates vying for Premier Ed Stelmach’s job.
Glad-handing the political elite in the province were Alison Redford, Rick Orman, Ted Morton, Doug horner, Gary mar and Doug Griffiths.
Morton tells the Calgary Herald his association with the federal tories was a big help to him during his 2006 campaign.
For her part, Redford believes some fence-building is due, saying there’s been a real separation between the federal and provincial parties in the last four or five years. She believes she can bridge that gap.
And there is a gap.
In a tent full of 850 party supporters, there was almost equal applause for members of the Wildrose Party on hand, the provincial tories new rivals on the right in provincial politics.
Those in attendance payed $150 a plate to attend the dinner.
