Witnesses sought after violent daytime brawl by NE Calgary mall: police

Charges have been laid after a fight escalated when one person was stabbed multiple times outside a northeast mall on Sunday, and Calgary police are seeking witnesses to the incident.
Reports of a stabbing outside the Pacific Place Mall on 999 36 Street NE came in at around 3:30 p.m.
Officers believe the two men involved were fighting before one of them went and retrieved a knife from his vehicle to stab the other multiple times.
The victim — a man in his 50s — was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition, but his condition has been upgraded to stable condition.
Police say the second man was arrested without incident on scene.
According to investigators, the two men were known to each other, and the fight was a result of an ongoing dispute.
Police are hoping witnesses come forward as they believe the area outside the mall was crowded.
“Although we have laid charges in this case, we are still looking to piece together the events that led up to this altercation,” said Staff Sgt. Keith Shufelt.
“We are continuing to collect witness accounts and video evidence to confirm timelines and understand how the situation escalated.”
Meanwhile, 45-year-old Calgary man Long Tran is facing one count each of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
