Calgary Stampede welcomes new sculpture

Calgary received its newest piece of public art on Wednesday, eight grand horses created by Canadian artist, Joe Fafard.

The sculpture will permanently reside in the downtown Province of Alberta Courthouse Park, which will be officially named later.

The artwork is the second in a series and is made of eight powder-coated 5/8 inch cut-steel plate horses. It was created to commemorate Quebec City’s 400th anniversary and our sister-city relationship.

The horses are in different poses to represent movement and dozens of smaller images reside within each horse.

The first in the series, which was presented as a gift to Quebec City in September last year, resides along the banks of the St. Lawrence River.
