A two-year-old investigations unit formed inside the Health and Wellness Department of Alberta Health Services has uncovered four doctors who may have committed fraud and about $1.8-million in questionable spending.
The Calgary Herald reports even with the possible fraud finding, the auditor general is concerned whether the department has the proper controls in place to nab doctors who cheat the system.
Of the $1.8-million that needs to be paid back, only about $1.4-million has been so far.
