The Calgary Stampede comes to a close

It’s just about time to hang up the ol’ cowboy hat!

Thousands are still filling the grounds dressed in true cowboy attire, trying to soak up the tenth and final day of the Calgary Stampede.

This year’s Stampede out did itself, showcasing spectacular events including Olympian skaters, human cannonballs and a visit from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Michael Casey, President and Chairman of the Stampede Board, say’s stampeding, “is about celebrating western heritage and values with your neighbours.  And we’re delighted to see and know that things are taking place in the city that really create an atmosphere in this city and that people come here for that.”

With over 1 million people having walked through the entrance gates, an increase of almost 13 thousand visitors from last year, Casey says 95 per cent of guests’ expectations were either met or exceeded.

With big shoes to fill, expansions are already underway for next years centennial stampede with more events, guests and shows.
