Pilot reacts to ultralight plane crash

The mayor of Crossfield is talking about his brush with disaster.

An ultralight plane piloted by Nathan Anderson, the younger brother of Airdrie-Chestermere MLA Rob Anderson, crashed in a field northwest of Calgary Thursday.

Anderson and his passenger, an adventure photographer, both walked away with just cuts and bruises.

The 32-year-old rookie mayor tells The Calgary Herald he felt a downdraft as soon as his aircraft took off, and knew it wasn’t going to turn out well.

But his passenger is praising Anderson for his skill, and for staying calm, because it could have turned out a lot worse.
