Psych assessment for baby’s father

A Calgary father has been ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric assessment
after being charged with attempted murder in the slashing of his 11-month-old child.
The baby was found in the early morning hours of August 13th by police who’d received a 911 call from a home in Cranston, in the city’s southeast.
Police said the boy was suffering from serious knife wounds.
Appearing in court Monday morning, the suspect looked only toward the judge, choosing to ignore friends and family in the room.
Lawyer Alain Hepner met some of the man’s large support network for the first time in court.
“It appears that way right now, it appears he does have some support systems. One member of the family just approached me right now to speak briefly but that’s as much as I can say,” says Hepner.
Hepner says he’s not opposed to the assessment, saying there are some obvious concerns present.
The accused’s name is not being released in order to protect the identity of his child.
The 32-year-old is due to be back in court September 23rd.
At last word, the child was expected to recover.
