Schedule is set for Layton funeral

Plans have been announced for Jack Layton’s body to lie in state on Parliament Hill and Toronto’s City Hall.
Layton’s closed casket will be carried to the foyer of the House of Commons and will have a constant vigil of five honour guards who are the security officers at the House of Commons.
They will guard the casket, drapped in a Canadian flag, all day and night.
The public can pay last respects Wednesday between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Calgary time.
Layton will be honoured with a 15 gun salute when he leaves Parliament Hill for the last time.
The casket will rest “in repose” at Toronto City Hall all day Friday and Saturday morning.
The state funeral will be Saturday at 12 p.m. Calgary time in Toronto at Roy Thomson Hall.
The eulogy will be delivered by his children, Mike and Sarah, and by Stephen Lewis, a former leader of the Ontario N-D-P.
Layton died Monday morning at the age of 61, following the charismatic politician’s second bout with cancer.
