Cameras planned to catch dumpers

Calgary bylaw is planning to set up cameras to catch people dumping junk on the doorsteps of charities.
It’s a massive problem for organizations, which have to sift through the junk to find something usable, but mostly they have to pay for getting it to the landfill themselves.
Now, Calgary Bylaw boss Bill Bruce tells 660News they’ll be setting up concealed, motion-activated video cameras at some of the dumping hot spots.
“You can put the camera out there for weeks at really no cost compared to putting an officer out to observe. And it’ll give you enough evidence if you can get a license number or a look at the people doing it to follow it up,” says Bruce.
Bruce says, typically, the spots they are most concerned about are the charitable sites and recycling locations.
The new cameras also send a signal to emergency dispatch when the catch any action.
