Sun blamed in fatal glider crash

Glare from the sun may have caused two gliders to collide in British Columbia over the long weekend, killing the Calgary pilot of one of the crafts.

RCMP haven’t said what caused the wreck near Inver mere Saturday afternoon but another pilot tells The Calgary Herald he thinks partial sun-blindness caused the gliders to clip wings.

Mel Blackburn says had one of the planes been just ten feet higher or lower, the accident likely wouldn’t have happened.

The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Keith Watson of Calgary.
