Watchdog wants more school board transparency

According to an education watchdog, the public school board meets nearly as often in private as it does in public.
Just after Calgary Board of Education trustees converged for the first time at their new headquarters Tuesday, the Association for Responsive Trusteeship in Calgary Schools called for more transparency.
ARTICS President Larry Leach tells The Calgary Herald the public lacks confidence in the board.
An ARTICS study found they met for nearly 27 hours in public last year and deliberated behind closed doors for about 22 hours.
Private talks include ranking criteria for capital projects and the board’s education charity.
