Police make arrest in bus driver assault case

A 25-year-old Edmonton man is in Calgary police custody thanks to tips from the public for allegedly assaulting a city bus driver on June 3rd.

On June 3rd, Mikkial Cardinal is said to have boarded a bus at the Heritage LRT Station drinking an open bottle of alcohol and singing loudly. When the driver politely asked him to quiet down, Cardinal allegedly punched the driver in the face before exiting the bus.

What the 25 year-old didn’t know is that a fellow passenger had filmed the entire incident.

Constable Trevor Matthes says, it was a key role in his arrest.

“This video was possibly the biggest piece of evidence we had and without a doubt, helped in identifying this individual,” says Matthes.

Cardinal will make his first court appearance on Thursday.
