Lace up your hiking boots while you journey through the heart of southern Alberta’s ranching country.
Start heading south to Longview taking the Highwood Pass Loop for an unforgettable view of forested foothills and folded mountains.
On your drive, you will climb up one of the highest paved roads in Canada.
Once on Highwood Pass, step out of the car and take in fields of wildflowers in a sub-alpine meadow near trees. To learn more about the pass take the Highwood Meadows Interpretive Trail.
Across the highway, take a short hike in the rockies on Ptarmigan Cirque Trail.
Hitting the road once again, head down the pass into the Kananaskis Valley, where you’ll find yet another trail: the Rock Glacier.
Beyond the Highwood Pass, is a 1 kilometre trail leading to Elbow Lake – a great place to rest for a picnic lunch or dinner.
