VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Canucks forward Mason Raymond spoke to the media today for the first time since breaking his back in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Bruins in Boston. Raymond says that he still does not have a firm timeline for his return and says that his status is indefinite.
Raymond, 26 hasn’t been skating yet but has been working out in the gym and says that he had a back brace on until late July. “That was the most pain I’ve been in ever, when it initally happened,” said Raymond. He’s been keeping up his cardio but still has not been doing any heavy lifting.
The team originally predicted that Raymond would be out 4 to 6 months which would suggest a late November or early December return. Raymond says that Boston’s Johnny Boychuk, who delivered the hit did contact him this summer. “I heard from Johnny, I guess, late July via text message and just kinda said he didn’t mean to,” said Raymond.
Raymond doesn’t hold any resentment for Boychuk but admits it was frustrating that he couldn’t finish the Stanley Cup Final and he is not able to start the season.
