Council approves 72 hour snow ban

City Council has approved a 72 hour parking ban after winter storms to allow city crews to clear priortiy routes quicker.
However, many Calgarians are worried they may not be able to find adequate parking, especially in some residential areas and the downtown.
Alderman Druh Farrell tells 660News, Calgarians have said they want better snow clearing and they’re trying to find solutions that are flexible and cause the least amount of inconvenience.
Farrell says they will work with neighbourhood groups to find the best way to accomodate everyone’s concerns.
She says the Roads Department is committed to working with various groups to come up with solutions that work in a particular area.
The ban will take effect when five or more centimetres of snow has fallen and affect roughly 15 per cent of curbside parking but would decrease the time it takes crews to clear the streets by 30 per cent.
Certain roadways may be exempt including those out front of some senior’s residences and business districts.
