Calgary schools celebrate achievement

Calgary’s two public school boards are celebrating what both interpret as strong results for city students on last year’s provincial achievement tests.
Kids in grades three, six, nine and 12 are tested each year as a measure of success compared to the Alberta average.
Calgary kids, regardless of which school board they fall under, are once again grading above average in a vast majority of subjects.
Boards use the marks as a measure of success and a road map for improvement.
Premier-Designate Alison Redford has promised to do away with testing for the elementary level.
Dr. Lucy Miller, with Calgary’s Catholic School District, says the board will work with the province but she doesn’t think they can just walk away from a student achievement test without having something in place to allow them to have an objective measure.
The CBE superintendent is taking a similar stance.
