Alberta Health Services is the first in the country to offer a new program that teaches parents and children strategies that promote healthy weights for children.
Executive Director of Health Promotion Bretta Maloff, said AHS has launched the “Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!” or MEND program.
“It’s a ten-week program, they meet twice a week,” she said. “During that time, they learn a number of different nutritional skills, portion sizes and label reading.”
“The parents also have opportunities to have discussions with the leaders.”
Maloff said Alberta is the first province to implement the healthy eating and active living course which is aimed at families with children aged seven to 13.
