DETROIT, MI (NEWS1130) – Cory Schneider stopped 35 shots for Vancouver, but was beat twice and the Red Wings blanked the Canucks 2-0.
Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard made 25 saves for his sixth career shutout.
Justin Abdelkader and Valtteri Filppula scored for Detroit in the Red Wings’ second straight shutout.
Howard made two spectacular saves on Daniel Sedin in the final three seconds of the first period.
The Detroit goalie also stopped Alex Burrows on a breakaway almost five minutes into the second period and denied Dale Weise on an attempted breakaway.
Cody Hodgson had the best chance for the Canucks with a shot from the right circle that bounced off Howard and into the net just after time expired in the second period. The play went to video review and was ruled no goal.
Lack of discipline hindered Vancouver. The team made nine trips to the penalty box.
The Canucks wrap their road trip on Saturday in Edmonton. Game time is at 7 pm.
