Stephen Carter refuses to discuss debt

Premier Alison Redford’s chief of staff won’t discuss the $600,000 debt acquired by his now insolvent company, Carter McRae Events.

Wildrose Alliance leader Danielle Smith says Stephen Carter should step down, as the opposition questions his ability to run a $40-billion government office.

According to The Calgary Sun, Carter wouldn’t comment on the debt racked up for unpaid services to clients like the University of Calgary and Stampede Entertainment Inc.

Smith says when he was her chief of staff, he told her he would resign if his debt became a news story.
