Calgary still has serious gang problem

Police says they welcome the convictions of two notorious gang members in connection with the 2009 triple murder at a the Bolsa restaurant.
The judge presiding over the case also urged the two gangs involved in the killings, the FOB’s and the FK’s, to end the bloodshed.
Police spokesman Kevin Brookwell tells 660News the gangs linked to the massacre are still operating in the city, along with several others.
Brookwell says the big reason why gang violence isn’t dominating the headlines like it did a few years ago is because the CPS made a commitment to invest more money and resources into battling organized crime.
He says officers are constantly monitoring gang members morning, noon and night, disrupting their activities.
Brookwell says when it comes to gang violence everybody has a role to play, he says with gangs recruiting members as young as 12 years-old, parents need to keep on an eye on their children and people should never be afraid to report any and all suspicious activity.
