A convicted murderer doing time at the Drumheller prison escaped from an escorted temporary absence, only to be recaptured a few hours later by RCMP.

Just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, the prison was told 32-year-old Donald Fowler had gotten away while he was returning from Buck Lake, Alta. to the institution in Drumheller.

Fowler’s been in jail since 1997 serving time for second degree murder and possession of an illegal substance.

The prison says it’ll review how he escaped to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
